We always start everyones birthday first thing in the morning with a big "Happy Birthday" shout out, and then they get to open their presents. Ever since he was really little, Porter never asks for anything for either his birthday or Christmas. It makes it hard to shop for him, but the cute part about it is that he is always so excited to see what he gets. He was the first kid up at Christmas and when we gave him the green light to wake everyone else up he ran to their rooms. That is probably his plan, not to ask, it make the suspense of not knowing that much more exciting.
Grandpa Bill entrusted Porter with his old train set a few years ago. Rhett and Porter have spend the last two winters making a very impressive home for the train. Watch This The engine that Grandpa Bill gave him has seen better days. So it was retired to the train yard. Porter got this new engine for his birthday. Along with his Trader Joe's oatmeal. Rhett is also taking him to the train show on Saturday. The two of them can be there as long as they want. The rest of us are staying home.
Rhett has loved working with Porter on this train project. Porter is quiet and mellow, it has been the perfect fit for them to be together. I think Rhett is getting a little sad that it is almost done.
Porter wanted to just stay home from church and do the train thing all day. I told him the next best thing would be to get home earlier than our 5:00 let out.
It was Jackson's farewell today. Their church starts at 11:00. Even with the luncheon after we where guaranteed to be home earlier than 5:00.
It was a nice meeting. Jackson did an amazing job on his talk. You could tell he put a lot of thought into it. Becky and Kevin have done such a good job raising him. He is so ready to go on his mission. He just seemed so grown up and already had such a strong testimony.
We got home at a really good time for Porter to have plenty of train time. Later that night Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ralph brought over another one of his favorites, rice pudding. Like Porter always says, "no matter what grandma makes, it's always good". The visit and yummy rice pudding was a good end for his birthday.
Porter, I just want you to know that I am so lucky to be your mom. I love you very much!
Happy 11th Birthday P-man!
