Spokane and the Hiawatha Bike Trail

Rhett has been wanting me to visit Spokane, he has to go there for work a lot. I have been wanting to go on the Hiawatha Bike Trail, I heard about it from friends at work. They are close by each other so we decided to plan a trip. We stayed in Spokane in the city next to the river. I like the city, the river is pretty. We also found the best pizza place around, It's called South Perry Pizza. We ate there twice and loved it both times. 

We met Scott and Heather for lunch and then went to their house for a few hours and hung out. It was fun seeing where they live. Scott and Rhett have been friends for years working at chase together. 

        My favorite part about the area was Coeur d'Alene. The town was quaint and cute with a Park City feel but the lake was incredible. They boat dock was high end and something from movies. The terrain was pine covered right down to the lake. The down side was most of the beachfront was privately owned by gorgeous homes, I wanted everyone of them. They did have a fun public park that went along the edge of the lake next to the dock.  We checked it out on the first day of sightseeing and decided to swim in it after our bike ride the next day.  

We got up early the next morning, the bike trailhead starts in Idaho. They hooked us up with our bikes and helmets.  We rode through 10 train tunnels the first one being 1.66 miles long that connects Idaho and Montana. It was dark and wet and cold in the first tunnel, by the time we got out we were covered with mud up our back. The sun was shining by now though and it felt so good. We also passed over 7 sky high trestles. The scenery was breathtaking, thick pines as far as you could see. Looking off the bridges you looked down on the trees it was such a different perspective, so interesting and pretty.  The bikes they gave us were not great, my gears did not work so it was good we basically just had to coast down the hills. We debated on taking the bus back up to the car but I was glad we did. My bike would have never shifted to go back up the hill and when we were done it was really hot so that would have been miserable too.

By the time we got back to the car it was really hot. We pulled over into the forest and cleaned the mud off of us by the river then changed into our swimsuits to go swim in the lake. Coeur d'Alene is so beautiful. We hung out on these cement steps that went right into the water. The water was so clear and felt so good. It felt so good swimming and laying in the sun. 

We did some more sight seeing in Spokane then headed out the next day. It was such a fun getaway.
