Lake Powell was defiantly different this year not having our boat or the kids there. We still had a great time though. Jed and Erin and Rondi and Marshall are fun to hang out with. We camped far back in a cove and on July 24th we had some neighbors that lit off fireworks. It was loud and so pretty bouncing off the rocks. Rhett and I brought our new paddle boards and we had a blast floating down to the end of our canyon. We parked and got off and walked up the dry river bed. The lake has not been this low in like 40 years so it was really fun exploring. We followed the little stream up until we came across a spring that was bubbling up out of the ground. So cool and eerie, you would put your foot down into the sand and it would just open up into deep water, creepy.
We also spent a lot of time on Jed boat surfing. Rhett was surfing and his board bounced up and hit him right in the face. It cut him pretty bad, I was nervous because we were hours away from anything. He didn't seem to care though and we just bandaged him up. (luckily it didn't scar too bad) He had a huge goose egg on his forehead. We all had a good laugh about that. Marshall also got caught up in the rope and beat himself up bad too. Luckily that is all that happened because this was the farthest we have ever gone down the canyon, like I said, we were far from anything.
The lower water levels in the lake made a whole bunch of new areas to explore. We walked up this canyon and found a waterfall at the end of it. It was so pretty and felt so good getting out of the sun and heat.
We were able to drive the boat under Gregory's Arch. I guess this arch has not been exposed since the lake was filled over 40 years ago. the boat barely fit so it had only been days that people were able to do this. It felt like we very visiting a hidden lost land, it was awesome.
We ate great food, stayed up late playing games, had a blast exploring the lake, visiting and laughing with good friend. Other than non of my kids there is was a blast.
